Come join other enthusiastic computer programmers in the Hudson Valley. Members of this group should be interested in data structures, algorithms, and writing clever, powerful programs in a variety of languages. There will be a focus during the meetings about writing correct code that fits the philosophy of the language and paradigm it is written in. Some meetings will be spent going over old programming problems (perhaps from ACM or ICFP or TopCoder) and devising the best solution that we kno …

Socially Functional is a meetup group for programmers that like to chat/scheme/vent about functional programming. It is also known as Functional Alcoholics, which is a hilarious pun except when people see it out of context and think you have a drinking problem. We have weekly hacking sessions at a coffee shop, and bar meetups at fairly random intervals. If you have an idea for a good bar or other venue, post it!
If you've ever visited Hacker News, you've almost certainly seen the "Show HN" or "Ask HN" posts. Well, it's time to get off the Internet and tell us about it face to face. We'll provide you with our honest feedback, you provide us with a great hack, or idea. We'll give you 5 minutes to show off your tool, hack, library (did you just write a library to access the Meetup API in Go!?), whatever. We're language and software/hardware agnostic, so it's all fair game. After you present, it's an open f …
The LispNYC.org community is devoted to the advocacy and advancement of professional software developers in their adoption of Lisp-based and functional programming technologies such as Common Lisp, Scheme and Clojure. We accomplish this through targeted programs of education, outreach, monthly meetings, mailing lists, development projects and spirited conversation with NY metro area software develpment professionals. Our monthly meetings are held every second Tuesday, are free and open to all.

Devoted to all things Emacs. Let's share our knowledge and experience of the many cool and kooky features of our beloved text-editor/IDE/MU-client/email-cli
ent/way-of-being. To get us off the ground, here are some possible topics: org-mode, mu/mudel, ERC/rcirc, VM, w3m. If you can think of any others, then please speak up! Meetings can be formal talks, but they don't have to be; we could just as well gather around a café table and banter and share.

This group is for people interested in the Scala programming language and related projects like the Play web framework. We can meetup and help each other learn. I'm not sure about the format yet, but we could have mini presentations or classes, discussions, study halls, share code, etc.

If you're interested in Clojure, Lisps, Emacs, Functional Programming, or just meeting with some other enthusiastic and experimental devs, come pay us a visit! We're using Clojure to build real systems and we're always looking to learn better ways of using this amazing technology.
